Utah has no statewide locksmith license that we found, but Provo requires a city locksmith license with fingerprints. Details and sources.

No statewide locksmith license that we found, though we couldn't open the state licensing division's own site to double-check. Provo licenses locksmiths at the city level.

## What to do in Utah

We found no statewide locksmith license in Utah. That doesn't mean no rules: you still need whatever general business registration and local business license your city or county asks of any trade, and some cities and counties license locksmiths on their own. Call the city or county clerk where you're based before you open, and check again if you start working in a new county.

### Local rules

- **Provo:** City Code chapter 6.16 requires a city locksmith license to run a locksmith business or do locksmith work in Provo, and a personal license for each employee. The application includes fingerprints filed with Provo Police. [Official page](https://provo.municipal.codes/Code/6.16)

### Every state: ID and proof on every lockout
