In the print window set scale to 100% or “Actual size”, margins to “None”, and turn off headers and footers. Most home printers leave a thin white edge; the text stays inside the safe area.

## How to make a locksmith flyer that gets calls

Choose an audience and the headline, second line and services fill in for that kind of client. Edit any of it. Pick a format, add your phone, license number and logo, and print. Nothing is uploaded: the logo stays in your browser tab.

### Locksmith flyer, door hanger or handout: the three formats

| Format | Size | Per sheet | Good for |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Letter flyer | 8.5 × 11 in | 1 | Office boards, front desks, leasing offices. Add tear-off phone tabs for community boards. |
| Door hanger | 4.25 × 11 in | 2 | Walking a street of businesses or an HOA community. |
| Half-page handout | 8.5 × 5.5 in | 2 | Dropping off at dealerships and real estate offices, or leaving at a job. |

Each layout keeps text at least 0.3 inches from every edge, because most home printers can't print right to the edge. Cut along the dashed lines. For the door hanger, cut the circle and the short line above it so it slips over a knob or lever. Printing a big run at a print shop? Ask for their door hanger template, since die-cut hole sizes vary from shop to shop.

### What to put on a locksmith flyer

1. **Your name and logo** at the top, small. The reader cares about their problem first.
2. **One headline about their problem** , like "Rekeys between tenants, on your schedule" for a property manager.
3. **Four to seven services** they actually buy. The tool caps the list to what fits each format.
4. **An offer you'll honor** , if you have one. Keep it to one line.
5. **Your phone number, big.** It's the line that makes the flyer pay for itself.
6. **License number and insurance** , only if they're real and current.

### Writing for each audience

- **Property managers** care about turnovers: a rekey between tenants, done when the unit is empty, and a master key system they control.
- **Realtors** want a closing rekey they can recommend, and someone who answers when a lockbox fails at a showing.
- **Car dealers** need spare keys and programming without sending the car to another dealer.
- **HOAs** look after pools, gates, mailrooms and clubhouses, often with a master key system.
- **Businesses** need a rekey when staff leave and quick help with commercial hardware like panic bars and closers.

Commercial clients who call from a flyer usually want a price for the whole building. The [commercial rekey quote builder](https://lockcommand.com/tools/commercial-rekey-bid) turns a door count into a bid you can print the same day.

### Keep the claims honest

If you write "same day", mean it. The tool flags words like best, cheapest, fastest and guaranteed, because the FTC says advertisers must have evidence to back up their claims ([FTC advertising guide for small business](https://www.ftc.gov/business-guidance/resources/advertising-faqs-guide-small-business)). It prints a license line only when you add your license number, and "Insured" only when you tick the box for a current policy.

### Worked example: a door hanger run on a business strip

Pick **Local businesses** and **Door hanger**. Keep five services: rekeys when staff leave, master key systems, panic bars and door closers, commercial locks and hardware, and business lockouts. Add an offer you'll honor, like "Free key count with every rekey quote". One sheet makes two hangers, so 25 sheets cover 50 doors. Walk the strip mid-morning, hand them to whoever is at the counter, and note which businesses asked questions. Add a [review QR card](https://lockcommand.com/tools/review-link-qr) to the stack so new customers can find your reviews.

### How many to print, and how to tell if they work

Start small: one or two hundred pieces aimed at one kind of client in one area. Ask every new caller how they heard about you, and write it on the job. If a run brings in one rekey or one property manager account, it has paid for the paper many times over. When the flyers start working, the phone rings while you are on a job, so make sure every call gets answered.

### Where to leave flyers, and where not to

Hang them on doors or hand them to someone at the front desk. Don't put them in mailboxes: federal law bars putting unstamped mailable matter in a mailbox ([18 U.S.C. 1725](https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/18/1725)). Some towns and HOAs limit door-to-door flyers, so check local rules and respect "no soliciting" signs.

Your license number goes in the footer when you add it. Some states require it on ads. Maryland, for example, wants the licensed locksmith's name and license number on every ad and business card ([Maryland locksmith advertising rules](https://labor.maryland.gov/license/locksmiths/lockad.shtml)). For your state, see [license rules by state](https://lockcommand.com/tools/locksmith-license).

## Questions

### What should I put on a locksmith flyer?

Your shop name, a headline about the one problem that audience has, four to seven services, your phone number in big type, your license number if you have one, and a clear next step like call or text. Leave off claims you can't prove, like best or cheapest.

### What size is a door hanger?

The most common size is 4.25 by 11 inches, which prints two to a US Letter sheet. The hole here is 1.375 inches across with a slit up to the top edge, drawn as dashed lines, so you can cut it with scissors or a craft knife.

### Can I put flyers in mailboxes?

No. Federal law (18 U.S.C. 1725) bars putting mailable matter without postage in a mailbox. Hang them on doors or knobs, hand them to someone, or mail them with postage.

### Do door hangers work for locksmiths?

They work best aimed at people who buy locksmith work again and again: property managers, HOAs, realtors and the businesses on one street. Hang them in one area, follow up in person, and count the calls that mention the flyer.

### Why doesn't the copy say best or cheapest?

Those are claims you'd have to prove. The FTC says advertisers must have evidence to back up their claims. Plain words about what you do and how to reach you work fine.

### Will it print on a home printer?

Yes. Print at 100% with margins set to None. Most home printers leave a thin white edge, so all the text sits inside a safe area away from the edges.

### Should my license number be on the flyer?

If you have one, yes. Some states require it on ads: Maryland wants the licensed locksmith's name and license number on every ad and business card. It also helps people trust a flyer from a shop they don't know.
